Construction

Clear and timely information during construction ensures locals stay informed and engaged with the project and helps the community understand delays and changes as they occur.

A cohesive project story that keeps the purpose and benefits visible through construction.

Construction is often when a project becomes most visible — and when disruption, uncertainty and misinformation can affect community support. Crank develops a clear, cohesive story that explains what is being delivered, why it matters and the benefits it will create. This gives project teams a strong public narrative to return to throughout construction, helping them address concerns while keeping the project's purpose and broader benefits front of their minds.

Community construction updates that are simple, accessible and informative.

Crank works with project and construction teams to turn technical updates, programme changes and disruption information into clear, accessible content. Timely information about what is changing, when and how people may be affected helps reduce uncertainty and gives communities greater clarity about what to expect. This can include targeted communications for affected residents, businesses and stakeholders, as well as digital updates, wayfinding, signage and other physical collateral.

Profiles of local people and businesses that highlight future connections.

Local stories can help people see what a project will make possible beyond the construction period. Crank develops profiles of people, businesses and organisations connected to the area, showing how improved walking, cycling and public transport connections can support everyday life. Profiles can be timed to construction milestones or different parts of the route, helping connect what people can see being built with the future benefits of the project.

Shared project successes and activation activity to maintain momentum during construction.

Activation programmes can run alongside construction to help communities build confidence, familiarity and enthusiasm for using new walking and cycling connections once they open. Crank connects this activity with wider project communications, promoting opportunities, managing registrations and sharing participation, successes and project milestones. This creates a cohesive story across construction and activation activity, helping maintain local interest and support as the project moves towards completion.

Targeted responses to local impacts during construction.

Construction can affect how people access businesses, schools and other local destinations. Crank works with project teams to identify where these impacts are creating particular challenges and develop targeted responses to address them. This can include incentives, small-scale activations and tailored communications that help maintain access, support affected places and make temporary changes easier to navigate.

Practical advice on construction elements from a cycling perspective.

Our team travels extensively around Tāmaki Makaurau by bike, giving us practical experience of how cycling infrastructure works on the ground. By riding project areas during construction, we can identify issues with temporary access and wayfinding, as well as snags, awkward transitions and other potential improvements of the permanent infrastructure as it is being built. Identifying these issues while contractors and project teams are still on site can make them easier and more cost-effective to resolve.
